How minors demat account is different from individual demat account?

  • Minors demat account is opened for children below 18 years and individual demat account is opened for majors who are above 18 years.
  • Minors can only trade in the equity delivery segment while majors are allowed to trade in the equity intraday as well as delivery segment.
  • Minors cannot trade in F&O while majors by providing income proof can trade in derivatives segment (equity, commodity, and currency).
  • Minors demat account is opened with parents who is legally entitled to open, operate, and close minors accounts. However, an individual demat account is opened and operated by the account holder.
  • When minors reach 18 years of age, the demat account is to be converted to individual account.
